WELCOME to St. Andrew's Stone Church, located in the middle of the beautiful Caledon Hills north of Toronto. The congregation of St. Andrew's was in existence even before the church itself was built. The congregation began in the late 1820s by meeting in Allen McKinnon’s barn, on what is now known as St. Andrew's Road, between Charleston Sideroad and Escarpment Sideroad in Caledon, Ontario. When McKinnon and his wife donated a one-acre piece of property to the Presbyterian Church, a small log structure was built. Finally, in 1853, the congregation built the charming one-room fieldstone church we see still standing today.
The 150th year anniversary in 2003 marked the start of a restoration project. Volunteers have spent countless hours working inside and outside the church, and as well, professionals have been employed to do the more difficult and technical work. The church is now available to be used for community events, weddings, concerts and art shows. The church is recognized as a charming meeting place for carol services at Christmas, and an Easter sunrise service. Starting in the summer of 2005, beautiful country weddings have been held at the church, the most recent being on the magical date of 07/07/07, that is, Saturday, July 7, 2007. In August 2006, and again on June 24, 2007, superb afternoon concerts were held in the church, featuring soprano Ali Armstrong, accompanied by Erica Pratt.
Early in 2003, Friends of St. Andrew’s was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in the Province of Ontario, and is affiliated with the Ontario Historical Society. As well, we have been granted charitable status, so that all donations towards St. Andrew's Stone Church, particularly for the restoration project, are given charitable receipts.
If you have had any association with St. Andrew's Stone Church, we would be delighted to hear from you!
